How to save time on Pinterest for business

Five ways businesses can save time and use Pinterest effectively

One of the main things that stops business owners from including Pinterest in their online marketing strategy is time. They already spend so much time creating their social media content, posting and engaging, that the idea of adding Pinterest to their list just sounds too much. 

But here is the thing:

Pinterest doesn’t have to be time consuming. You can grow your business with Pinterest without it taking hours out of your week.

 

Sure in the beginning Pinterest takes some time to set up.

You have to optimise your profile, do your keyword research, create your boards… but once that is all done, the creation of Pinterest content and posting it does not have to take up more than maybe an hour a week – or even less!

If the thought of investing your time into another social media platform has you feeling overwhelmed, know this: the time and energy you put into Pinterest now will continue to pay off over time. Unlike Instagram or Facebook posts, Pinterest Pins will be searchable and shown to users for months and years to come.

But how can you make Pinterest run smoothly for your business? Here’s five ways you can save time and use Pinterest efficiently as part of your business’ marketing strategy: 

 

1. Resize images you already have

You know all those images you have created for your social media? Good news is, they can be pretty easily repurposed. If you create your images in Canva (like many do – including me) you can easily resize your images on the platform. Then once you do that you can do little edits to make them look right in the new size, and maybe add a little bit of text to help grab the Pinterest user’s attention. Bam – Pinterest optimised image.

 

2. Repurpose your content

Those captions you’ve written on your Instagram, your product descriptions, or snippets from your blog – they are all waiting to become Pin descriptions. A simple copy and paste with a few keywords thrown in plus a CTA and like magic you have a Pin description ready to go!

Pro tip: Create a spreadsheet (or similar) and add in your Pin descriptions every time you create a Pin. The result will be a whole library of content you can just grab and use over and over again.

 

3. Use a good scheduler

Pinterest is nice and allows you to pin and schedule right from the app which is great. But if you want to save time and pin & schedule your business Pinterest content in bulk or more efficiently then you need a scheduler.

My top recommendations are Tailwind and Planoly. They are both easy to use and fairly inexpensive for small businesses who don’t need to pin any more than 100 pins a month. Tailwind is universally known as THE Pinterest scheduler but Planoly is pretty great too. Planoly has a great feature when you can write a title and description ONCE and then add attach a range of images to create multiple pins with ease! Pinterest doesn’t care if the description and title is the same, it just wants fresh images. Easy!

 

4. Work in bulk

 Just like Instagram, when you are creating one piece of content at a time and posting daily it can be a massive time suck. And it’s stressful! I don’t know a single business owner who has plenty of time so this is one thing you really need to do as part of your Pinterest strategy.

Step 1. Make a list of all the things you want to pin about.

Step 2. Create a whole bunch of images in Canva.

Step 3. Upload to your scheduler.

Step 4. Set a time schedule (you don’t need to worry about pinning at the “right” time as much as you do on Instagram).

Step 5. Grab those Pinterest images and write your titles and descriptions (this should take only a couple of minutes per pin).

Step 6. Schedule and forget!

Not only does pinning in bulk save you time, but it ensures you have a range of content that covers all the elements of your business.

 

5. Outsource

If all of this just seems like too much then you can just hand it over to someone who knows what they’re doing. Outsourcing can be scary for small businesses and might not seem like an ideal investment, but by handing over the reins you can forget all about everything I’ve mentioned above and just concentrate on filling those orders that come it!

No matter what you choose to Pin on Pinterest, you must ensure you consistently create content that: 

  • Links back to your website or blog
  • Links to your email opt-in page
  • Links to your product page and online store

In addition, to attract more engagement, you should:

  • Use both text and images for a great Pin.
  • Keep the text clear and legible
  • Vary the photos/ images from Pin to Pin.
  • Create 3 – 5 variations of each Pin per blog post.
  • Put your website on each Pin to increase brand awareness and protect against theft.

As you can see there are lots of types of content you can create for your Pinterest account. And this really isn’t everything. So have a look at all the content you produce in your business and see if you can create a Pin template for it to promote it on Pinterest.
